Celebrate Halloween or Reformation Day?

October 31st is celebrated as Halloween but it is also marked as the day that Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the All Saints' Church in Wittenberg Germany.

It was October 31, 1517 that marked the official beginning of the Protestant Reformation. However, several men such as John Wycliffe and John Huss laid much of the groundwork that helped inspire Martin Luther to challenge the papacy.

October is observed as Protestant Reformation month, which serves as an opportunity to better understand the people, issues and the influence the Reformation had on our society. I encourage everyone to take some time to study and reflect upon this highly influential event. I’m sure that in doing so you will truly find cause for celebration on this, and every other, October.

Christians need no longer question the observance of Halloween by trying to repackage or “Christianize” the occasion. Indeed, that was taken care of for us by our LORD through His workman, Martin Luther in 1517. Share this nugget of little known history with others and take this Halloween Reformation Day as a reminder and opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who may not know that their Hope rests in Him alone.
